While in the Gospels, the other reason they became offended was that Jesus acted as though he was the Messiah, and said he was the "Son of God". This intended that he was possibly a horrible liar, that he was mad and just imagined it, or that it absolutely was true. But Jesus didn't appear to be mad. In order that still left only two alternatives.
